  | White Macbook Upgraded As expected Apple has upgraded the specs of their white 13-inch MacBook on the UK store, reflecting changes seen on the US store yesterday. Previously displaying 2.1GHz, the white 13-inch MacBook now is listed as 2.0GHz, but with an improved memory as standard up from 1GB DDR2 Memory to 2GB DDR2 Memory and a superior NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card replacing the Intel GMA X3100 graphics card.
Previously £704.00 from the Apple UK store, the refreshed spec increases the price to £719.00. This puts the price of the white MacBook back to its price it was when the unibody MacBook was released (it had been lowered by £15 when the VAT rate went from 17.5% to 15% in the UK.) The US price has not changed and remains at $999. The price increase can partly be attributed to the continual fall of Sterling's value against the US dollar, although it is bound to once again cause anxiety amongst Apple's UK customers. Apple is currently displaying ‘5 business days’ for delivery compared with ‘Within 24hrs’ for the aluminium 13-inch MacBook. For the first time in its history, Apple tallied more than $10 billion revenue, reporting sales of $10.17 billion for the three months ended 31 December.

  | Cooking the netbook "We’re watching that space, but right now, from our point of view, the products in there are principally based on hardware that’s much less powerful than we think customers want, software technology that is not good, cramped keyboards, small displays, et cetera. And so we don’t think people are going to be pleased with those types of products, but we’ll see. We are watching the space. As you know, about 3 per cent of the PC industry was in this netbook kind of category so it’s a category we watch. We’ve got some ideas here. But right now, we think the products there are inferior and will not provided an experience to customers that they are happy with."

  | Apple recently posted a support document revealing that retail boxes of the new iWork '09 suite do not require users to input serial numbers to activate the product. Users who download the iWork '09 30-day trial from Apple's site, however, will still have to input serial numbers upon purchasing the full version online in order to unlock the applications.

  | CNet reports that Google is hoping to release a version of their Chrome browser for both Mac and Linux in the first half of 2009. At the moment, the Mac version is just starting to become functional: "That team now is able to render most Web pages pretty well. But in terms of the user experience, it's very basic," Rakowski said of the Mac version. "We have not spent any time building out features. We're still iterating on making it stable and getting the architecture right." Chrome is a Webkit-based browser developed by Google that is currently available for Windows only. Google believes it "can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web."
Google's co-founder even acknowledged that the lack of a Mac version was "embarrassing" and that he was running Chrome under VMWare Fusion on his own Mac.

  | If you right click or control click an item such as a file or folder you can assign a coloured label to it. To rename the labels, whilst in The Finder go to Finder, Preferences and the Labels tab. You create red labels for urgent work, or use labels to organise a project.
You can then create a Smart Folder that brings together files and folders with the coloured label where ever they maybe inside your filing system.

  | Hi. I'm Derek, a Geordie living in Manchester and a newbie to British Mac.
Just found the pod casts last week and I think they are fantastic! They just reek of British eccentricity which I love. Appropriately, the first one I heard was the Viv Stanshall one. Excellent.
Can't say I have a favorite section I think the whole thing is just inspired.
Congrats to Dave on his recent marriage too.
Keep it up!
All the best Derek

  | 'Ello there!
*returns to normal voice*
I'm Benjamin, or Ben, depending on your mood, not mine. I'm still in school, but I do Mac software development in my spare time. I'm also a first-time MacHeister this year and recently became addicted to Twitter. I have listened to the podcast for nearly a year now, and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, although I might not have managed that last sentence without the OS X spellchecker. British Mac is one of two podcasts that I look forward to listening to, the other being Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4. British Mac is easily my one favourite podcast, and I came here through frequent references from the show.
I know Will often reads out these things, but I don't think he should read this out as it would waste far too much time when he could be reading one of the far more interesting posts.

  | Hi Will, the cat and all. My name's Tim and I'm a recovering Windows user. Although I'm frequently forced to "use" at work I am now almost totally clean at home (apart from a minor Boot Camp habit which I'm working on with my Mac Genius Therapist..)
I initially got hacked off with 'doze about a year ago as the people at MS appeared to have a firm view that they owned my hardware as well as the OS and I seemed to be spening a lot of my time fixing the damn thing. Went totally Open Source for a while using MEPIS then Ubuntu - wonderful, at last both the hardware and software were mine, but I was still spening half my time fixing the bloody thing - I'm an Audiologist, terminal hacks don't come naturally to me. Started sneaking into Apple shops on trips to Meadow Hell shopping centre and made the leap......to a G3 iMac, £36 off ebay. Wonderful machine and still works beautifully...as a DVD player. Got all giddy and bought the 24" iMac with the posh graphics card and biggest processor + terabyte drive. It's good at everything, looks amazing AND...I NEVER have to fix it .
Thanks so much for all the work you put in to producing such a unique, funny and well made podcast. You are giving a lot of pleasure to many people and it is very much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Tim

  | Hi Will, and all forum members!
I've been a Britishmac listener for 2 years now. My first taste of an Apple was a 4g ipod, and have been hooked ever since. i now own a 20inch iMac (a shiny aluminium one), a 3g iphone, an apple tv (running Boxee - the best app in the world!), and a brand new aluminium macbook.
I try to convince all my family, friends and work colleagues to buy apple - and sometimes it works!
I have also started a blog at http://iconfessimageek.com.
Regards
David

  | Hi Will / British Mac / Forum members
My name's David, I've been listening since episode 1, I'd just never explored onto the forums!
My first experience of the mac was about 4/5 years ago on a emac at college running OS9. I have to say os9 didn't particularly interest me, however when they upgraded to jaguar I thought 'this is how a computer should work.'
I bought a second hand powermacg4 and have never looked back, even got a couple of friends to switch over.
I now gaze up on my lovely 24inch Imac

I had a go at creating a website over the weekend (using iWeb of course) and was wondering if you'd like to take a look and let me know what you think.
It's based around my new hobby of photography and a couple of other things besides.
I do have one question if any one can help me, how do I set the RSS feeds up? I can't seem to sort it out or get any help on it....
Thanks

  | ComicZeal Hi Will,
On your latest podcast you asked for iPhone app recommendations.
I've written an app called ComicZeal. It's a comicbook reader and it works fantastically well.
That's my objective and unbiased view.
So ... I recommend it.
Seriously though, I'm really quite proud of it and would be honored if you gave it a go and let me know what you think.
Regards,
Emiliano Molina Bitolithic.com

  | With so many of the Golden Age comics falling out of copyright it seemed almost criminal to be able to create ComicZeal and not do it.
So here it is, ComicZeal is your gateway to the fabulous world of Golden Age comics. Take these collector's items on the bus with you, read them waiting for or just show them off at work.
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
  | ComicZeal works in portrait and landscape mode to suit the orientation of the page or panel you're reading.
It remembers what page you were up to for each comic in your collection and will take you straight there next time you read it.
Because ComicZeal uses pinch-zoom and fingertip scrolling you can move around the page really quickly and zoom in to detail when you need to.
Before reading, comics are downloaded to your iPhone or iPod Touch for quick page changes and access when you're off the net.
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
  | ComicZeal's built-in downloader lets you browse our great collection of copyright-free Golden Age comics (wikipedia) and download them straight to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
All the comics are free and you can download as many as you want
The link below will take you straight to the very same pages you will access from your iPhone or iPod. So keep in mind they'll look a little strange on your PC, and trying to download comics just won't work!
