  | New Aiport Express released
AirPort Express (£65) is the world's smallest 802.11n-based mobile base station and can be plugged directly into the wall for wireless connectivity and USB printing. AirPort Express also offers AirTunes, which works with iTunes to wirelessly stream music around the home. "Apple is leading the way with a broad range of innovative 802.11n base stations for almost any wireless networking need," said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. AirPort Express weighs 6.7 ounces and lets users share a single DSL or cable broadband connection with up to 10 simultaneous users. Users can also share a printer wirelessly. Security features include support for WiFi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2), 128-bit WEP encryption and a built-in firewall.ar

  | Channel 4 on iTunes
UK broadcaster Channel 4 has joined the BBC to make some of its shows available through iTunes in the UK. £1.89 per episode A selection of shows including hits Shameless, Skins, Peep Show, Black Books, Spaced, Monarchy and Teachers are available now through Apple's online media and entertainment service.

  | Open University opens up to Mac The Open University says: “The Open University is committed to supporting Mac users and also users of other platforms such as Linux in all future activity." The Open University has recently introduced a purpose designed Virtual Learning Environment which makes material available to students via the internet and can be accessed by Mac or PC. The University's FirstClass conferencing system can be accessed by Macs and assignments can be submitted electronically by Mac users using rich text files (rtf) or open office software available for free download.

  | New Safari released
Apple has introduced Safari 3.1 for Mac and Windows. Available now for download, Apple claims the software to be the fastest browser in the world, declaring Safari loads web pages 1.9 times faster than IE 7 and 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2.
Safari also runs JavaScript up to six times faster than other browsers, and, “is the first browser to support the latest innovative web standards needed to deliver the next generation of highly interactive Web 2.0 experiences,” the company said. “Safari 3.1 for Mac and Windows is blazingly fast, easy to use and features an elegant user interface,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. Safari 3.1 is the first browser to support the new video and audio tags in HTML 5 and the first to support CSS Animations. Safari also supports CSS Web Fonts, The browser supports drag-&-drop bookmarks, tabs, offers an integrated Find mechanism that shows the number of matches in a page and offers a built-in RSS reader. Safari 3.1 is available now as a free download. Safari 3.1 for Mac OS X requires Mac OS X Leopard or Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.11, a minimum of 256MB of memory and is designed to run on any Intel-based Mac or a Mac with a PowerPC G5, G4 or G3 processor and built-in FireWire. Safari 3.1 for Windows requires Windows XP or Windows Vista, a minimum of 256MB of memory and a system with at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor.
