  | New iMac, iPhone hints turn up in Apple software update By AppleInsider Staff Published: 12:00 PM EST
• Minutes after Apple released an update to its Tiger operating system on Wednesday, curious users began sifting through the software's installer packages, turning up a new Yahoo! framework and possible hints at forthcoming iMac revisions.
YahooSync
In an e-mail, one AppleInsider reader pointed out that Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update installs a new framework called "YahooSync," which can be found in the "PrivateFrameworks" system directory.
Apple made no mention of the addition in release notes accompany the Tiger update, leading to speculation that the code is being added to support Yahoo!'s "push" IMAP email feature, which is expected to ship as part of iPhone later this month, or the handset's ability to sync with Yahoo! address books.
New iMac display vendors
Meanwhile, AppleInsider forum member "bogg" discovered that the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update installs several new "display" vendor resources, four of which are appear to be associated with Apple's iMac line.
The forum member speculates the additions could indicate that Apple's upcoming line of summer iMacs will include updated LCD panels or more simply panels from a different vendor.

  | Brushed aluminum iMac in the pipeline June 7, 2007 - Apple is poised to deliver its third Mac revision in less than a month next week when the company takes the wraps off its new iMac line. Sources with reliable track records report the new iMac, wrapped in a brushed aluminum enclosure, is currently tracking for release at or around Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 11.
Update: While sources are confident that the company's plans have called for an announcement next week, they caution that the release schedule may have changed. If that proves to be the case, the aluminum iMacs would presumably follow in the ensuing weeks.
Since the inception of Intel-based systems in January 2006, the iMac platform has shared many of its internals with the MacBook Pro, meaning the new iMac will surely benefit from the same improvements the MacBook Pro received earlier this week. This includes the implementation of Intel's new Santa Rosa architecture, which features a 20 percent faster front-side bus than the outgoing models and processor speeds up to 2.4GHz.
As previously reported, the 17-inch model will not be included in the new iMac line-up, which will feature models with 20-inch and 24-inch displays only. Prices will drop accordingly on the models with larger displays, which current start at $1,499 for the 20-inch, but they are not expected to match the outgoing 17-inch Mac's $999 entry-level price point.
The iMac's new enclosure will better match that of Apple's high-end systems as the company repositions the iMac as a more premium offering.
Also expected at WWDC next week is the Mac OS X 10.4.10 update, while Apple may also take advantage of the timing to replace its 23-inch Cinema Display with a 24-inch model that uses the same panel as the iMac.

  | DOCK ICONS ACCEPT CLIPPINGS VIA DRAG AND DROP ★ You can finally drag and drop clippings to icons on the Dock. (In previous versions of Mac OS X, there was no way to get an app icon in the Dock to accept a drag that contained a clipping.) This includes URL clippings: • You can drag a URL to Safari and it will open that URL in a new window. • You can drag the URL for an XML feed to NetNewsWire 2, and it will create a new subscription to that feed. • You can drag text to Safari, and it will perform a Google query on the text you dragged. • You can drag any text clipping (regular text, URL, etc.) to BBEdit, and it will open a new document containing that text.

  | Clippings - try this.
Highlight a section of a website, including photos, drag this on to the desktop to create a clipping.
Double click the clipping and it opens uneditable text.
However open a Text Edit and drag the clipping into a blank page. The original format of the web page is preserved including photos and hyper links! Magic!

  | I classify myself as not-quite-unemployed, because around 4 days a month, I work in technical support or as a trainer. I have been in technical support of pre-press networks, database development and training since '92; graphic design since '73 (yes, I'm almost ancient!). I'm a non-smoker, lucky to be in good health and I have a full driving licence. I'm reliable, honest and self-motivated. Current commitments leave me, say, 30 hours a week to fill and I am looking for contract, temporary or permanent roles within 30 miles radius of Redditch (or via online delivery).
I have four strings to my bow: (i) OS X technical support (ii) artworker - using Adobe CS2 (but I could return to XPress) (iii) database developer, using Filemaker Pro (iv) trainer - OS X, it's in-built applications and OS X Server
Could you take advantage of this skillset?

  | Happy Ending! Hi Will,
Great news, once again Apple inc have turned my temporary angst into contented happiness. (Perhaps they heard my question on your last podcast.)
I phoned Apple up to say that before I have even had the chance to open the box of my new 15" Macbook pro.. the new spec is already out..
Straight away they told me not to worry and that they would let me use the mac i have just received while they built and sent me the new spec with more RAM, a faster hard drive and all the other improvements to boot!
Not only that but even though the new mac in is a little more expensive, they would waiver the charge as a gesture of good will.. that's not goodwill that is great Will !!
Once again I am a happy mac user after having been looked after by the people in the Apple customer service department. Would I get this kind of service at Curry's or PC world.. I will leave that to your speculation.
Cheers for including my whinge in your last podcast, I would like to think that someone in customer service took note and that the power of the podcast has once again won through.
cheers Will, keep up the good work.
Christian

  | Podcast Pizza Hi Will,
I know podcasters are always looking for good quality podsafe music to add spice and variety to their shows, but I also know that it often takes time and energy to find exactly what you’re looking for, and then sometimes when you do find it, it turns out not to be podsafe.
This letter is to announce the launch of Podcast Pizza. What is Podcast Pizza you ask? It’s a collection of podsafe music tracks that I have created for you, the podcaster. This music, which I have composed and produced, covers a wide range of genres, from 70’s rock to cool jazz.
The larger part of the collection consists of tracks of generally one minute in length, the audio of which has been set to be able to loop seamlessly back to the beginning to create a continuous background music bed. The smaller part of the collection consists of non-looping music in a wider variety of lengths.
At my new website, www.daphna.ca, I have created a 3-minute montage to give you a quick and easy preview of the scope of this unique music collection:
http://daphna.ilovemymacthesong.com/PodcastPizza/podcastpizza.html
Now you are asking, “Okay, what’s this going to cost?”
How about if I said that it isn’t going to cost you anything? Pretty sweet...
But okay, I do ask one thing of you in return, and it’s quite simple. Any time you use my music during your show, you mention me as the writer and/or mention my website, www.daphna.ca
I look forward to hearing from you : )
Regards, Daphne Kalfon

  | British mac aids cutting your lawn Fly-mo and British Mac Will,
Can I just congratulate you on an excellent podcast and also mention that the last one ran for 1 hour 10 minutes and 10 seconds which is exactly the amount of time that it took to cut my grass today. Listening on my IPod meant that I cut the last blade of the bloody stuff just as the BMBC end of transmission signal came on. Well done! Grass cutting has never been such fun or gone so quickly.
Regards
Murray Intel Imac 20" and Flymo!
