  | Apple iTV 'has hard drive' - Disney boss By Macworld staff Apple boss Steve Jobs kept it quiet, but it seems the company's in-development iTV device sports its very own hard drive.
Speaking at a Goldman Sachs conference, Walt Disney Co CEO Robert Iger confirmed Apple's future device will have a hard drive.
Iger also confirmed that Disney has sold $1 million value of movies through iTunes since Apple launched its movie download service last week.
Jobs offered only a slight glimpse at Apple's forthcoming device for streaming media held within an iTunes collection on a networked computer to a television.
He described iTV (which should ship in the first half of 2007 under a different name) as offering a range of connectivity options to get iTunes content onto a TV. The device will stream content from computers in the home to the big box.
It will do this using either ethernet or WiFi. It will be controlled by an Apple Remote and a Front Row-like interface visible on the TV screen.
Discussing iTV, Iger said: "It can stream (content) live through the box to the TV and has a small hard drive.
"I saw it in a living room setting. It felt like a game changer to me in many respects. As the content provider we are, that was very exciting," Iger added.
He called the device "relatively easy to use" and "compelling".

  | Apple Wants to Own "Podcast" Trademark Apple has issued a cease and desist to Podcast Ready, claiming that the terms "Podcast Ready" and "myPodder" infringe on Apple's trademarks, and that they cause confusion among consumers. Wired notes that Apple has been cracking down on use of the word "pod" by lots of different people. Clearly this means that Apple is trying very hard to own the podcast trademark and I would not be surprised to see a lot of different products and sites change their names. However, like with Google, the genie is out of the bottle here. Podcast is in the dictionary and part of the vernacular. Still, I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV so it's hard to say what's right here by law. From the naked eye it seems very aggressive to me.

  | New Mighty Mouse Coming? From Lez in New Zealand
Hi Will,
This is interesting. I've been trying to order a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse through a local retailer but he's had trouble getting it supplied. Eventually he got this reply from Apple here in New Zealand:
"I have found out the delay is because they are putting out a new model of the mouse. There is no ETA on it at the moment as they are awaiting the arrival of the new model."
I wonder if Apple are having problems with this mouse. Put the Fez down and get your sleuthing hat on mate.
Cheers, Les

  | Story teller from British Mac
Thanks Will
I think it's the Storytellers at the Edge that do the ghost talks. Most of my supernatural tales are of the Breton variety (shameless plug, Arena Theatre, Wolves, December 7th, nearest local one), although I do a few from the other Celtic nations from time to time.
Hope all's well.
Best,

  | Two silent Mac Mini's from Ian Rycroft
Hi Will,
I wonder if you could ask your listeners a question to save what is already a balding head from losing even more hair in frustration!
I have just put myself in debt to get two (yes two) mac mini's for my daughters. They are the new core duo 1.66GHz Intel processor. The problem is there is no sound at all from both of them.
The Output section of Sound in Systems says "No output devices found." I have restarted the Mini several times, done a Pram reset, dumped the sound and system prefs (it's ok I know what I'm doing), but this has no effect. No sound on startup or thereafter. Internal speaker in the Mini is silent and seems not to be visible to the system.
I have checked out a few forums and it would appear I am not the only one to suffer this problem. It must be a known issue as it is on both the Mac mini's. I will be contacting Apple if I can't solve it but I wondered if one of your learned listeners might be able to help first?
As I mentioned above I know quite a bit about Macs as it is part of my job to keep them running at work but this has me baffled.
Great show as always Will.
