  | The new processor delivers up to 50% more performance than the previous 20-inch iMac. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, the twin cores sharing 4MB between them.
Old iMac ran a 2.00 GHz Intel Core Duo, which is the same as Mac Book Pro which came out in May. New Merom chip in Mac Book Pro which is annouced on September 12th?

Note - the X in the code denotes eXtreme. A hot desktop chip.
My bet is Apple will release a MacBook Pro with either 2.13, 2.40 or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo chips. But as Apple seem to add 0.03 to CPU speeds that will probably read 2.16, 2.43 and 2.69!

  | Buy Woz's House for 10 Million!
Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak has one of the most unique houses in an exclusive area of Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 7,100-sq foot house has 6 bedrooms and 7.5 baths and seems relatively normal when viewed from the outside, although the interior is beyond unique, having recently been completely overhauled by developer Larry Willard and architects Avi Agasi and Amnon Levy. The house is gorgeously appointed, with spa-like bathrooms, huge decks and a built in espresso machine and wet bar. On top of its more standard features, it also boasts a children's discovery complex, an arcade, a cave (designed to look real by experts from the California Academy of Sciences ) and a pet hotel. Almost all of the materials used in the house are organic, as opposed to man-made, with curving lines throughout and lots of skylights to maximize the amount of movement in the house. The asking price is $10 million.

  | Beef back in Bovril.
Three years after Unilever decided to tamper with Bovril, we’re pleased to say that it’s back to normal.
Following the ban on British beef, Bovril saw its key ingredient of beef stock replaced by a savoury yeast mix. Mmm. Yummy.
Only it wasn’t. The vegetarian-friendly version never took off – go figure – and now, following the revived confidence in UK cow meat, they’ve gone back to beef.
“I’m sure Bovril fans around the world will be 100 per cent behind this,” said a Unilever spokesman.
It’s the latest step in a long, strange journey for the product. It was invented in the 1880s by Scotsman John Lawson Johnston and was originally called Johnston’s Fluid Beef. From there, it became popular across the UK, particularly with football fans looking for a half-time warmer.
An incredible three million jars of Bovril are sold each year, particularly in the Far East. In Malaysia, it’s even used to flavour porridge.

  | Bringing wiki to the Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard. You can think of it as StickyNotes on steroids, or a digital Moleskine notebook. Create notes, search for them, and link notes together automatically.
Winner of the first Apple Dashboard Widget Contest: WikityWidget is a personal notepad with automatic linking. Using a simple notebook-style interface, WikityWidget lets you easily jot down and organize notes with hypertext links so they’re easy to find and instantly available via the Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard. It applies Wiki technology in a new and interesting way on the Mac and demonstrates the powerful potential of widgets to leverage technologies in Tiger.

  | Mikes comments: Re the webcam that watched the Cambridge University coffee pot. Saw more about it on BBC's Click television show today. It was switched off on the morning of Wednesday 22nd August, 2001 because the lab was moved to a different building. The coffee pot was sold on ebay for over £3,000!
Check out Mike's comments from older podcasts, you can also add your own!

  | A beach hut is a small, usually wooden, building above the high tide mark on popular bathing beaches. Beach huts are used for changing into and out of swimming costumes and to provide a base for informal family recreation. Some beach huts have some simple equipment to prepare food and hot drinks. At many seaside resorts, beach huts are arranged in one or more ranks along the top of the beach. Depending upon the location, beach huts may be owned privately or may be owned by the local council or similar administrative body. On popular beaches, privately owned beach huts can command substantial prices, out of all proportion to their size and amenity. There are believed to be around 20,000 beach huts in the UK

  | Hi mate!
I have to add my vote of support to the Flanders and Swan bid to get them onto British Icon. I know it would mean a lot to their supporters the world over if such an important British institution such as British Mac recognized their lifetimes of achievement. Perhaps the introduction of a British Mac Lifetime Achievement Award is in order?!
