FM Receiver for iPOD from Rob Hancox

Hi Will,

Just thought I'd share with you my recent purchase, an iPod 4-in-1 FM Transmitter. For £16.95 this thing is superb!  With a little digital display to select the FM transmission, an adjustable cradle to accept ANY iPod, a separate audio input jack and a USB port to plug and charge any USB chargeable device - I can't fault it!!.   I know it's not legal to use it in the UK - I need to check up on the other European countries that I might be breaking the law in, but honestly it's a nice piece of kit and the only reason I bought it was to enable my tape-player-less Volvo to play my iPod in.  There was no way I was going to pay £300 or more for the official Volvo in-car iPod kit. No way!!!.  From what I understand the DTI are anticipated to relax the FM transmission laws for low power devices like this after much procrastination.

Any £16.95 off eBay. Bargain.  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9743267763

The 4th Official Anniversary of macCompanion - in July! - From Robert Pritchett

We decided that we would make some news instead of just reporting on it over here om the other side of the pond at macCompanion.

We are opening our "Gift-away" to all residents of Planet Earth as we celebrate the 4th official anniversary  of macCompanion the 2nd week of July.

We've posted a growing list of donors who are willing to spread their wealth by "gifting" their wares on our behalf.

The rules require a free subscription to the Mac ReviewCast podcast with a preference for the Enhanced version.

The list of donors and their gifts continues to grow and we also posted the link to Tim Verpoorten's Mac ReviewCast at http://www.maccompanion.com

The gift-giving will commence the 2nd week of July on the Mac ReviewCast.

Now everyone can participate!

Mac Problems - Tiff Sunbacon

A friend's iBook is behaving very oddly indeed and I wondered if you
or any fellow BritishMaccas might be able to shed some light on this.

The problem is that nothing in the Finder or on the Desktop works. The
menu bar items show their pull-downs but thereafter nothing happens as
a result. Icons that are clicked do nothing. Nothing can be dragged.
The waste basket (yes waste basket, not trash) cannot be opened. The
dock however does respond and those few items in it will open when
clicked. Oddly - and perhaps this is connected to the central issue -
the Macintosh HD icon is missing.

I've run  Repair Disk from Disk Utilities and it tells me that there
is no problem! The Repair Permissions option is greyed out and
unavailable. I've also trashed (because waste paperbasketed doesn't
work as well) the Finder prefs but that hasn't made any difference

I've tried to use the re-install disks but there is no Archive and
Install option available. The only reason I can detect for this is
that the version (of Tiger) installed is later than that on the
install disks.

I could Firewire it to another Mac and copy all the user files and
then do a clead install but I would rather try to fix the issue first
if possible.

Any ideas?

Jo Thomson's Terratic Digital TV Box for Mac's review.

Hiya Will!
Just listened to Ep. 20 and heard Martin Pickering's email, which included a comment about the Terratic Digital TV Box for macs. I'd just like to say that it works brilliantly for me - I bought it a week ago. I actually got it through EyeTV (http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvdtt) which includes the brilliant EyeTV software.

You know when you encounter some mac software that oozes macness? Well this is a brilliant example - when you chose the channels you want to always have selected it scans a service called TVTV and downloads a tv guide for the following week or so. To record a program to your  hard drive you just click on the program and it sets a schedule. It will startup the program if it isn't open when the program comes along, and even startup/wake the computer!

As for the Terratic box which contains all the hardware for the setup its connected via USB to the mac, and via a normal tv arial lead to your rooftop arial or (if your signals good enough like mine is) to a tiny 5cm tall arial which i've got pointing out of my window. My advice to anybody with one is check which way all the surroudning rooftop arials are pointing! I spent ages pointing it in every direction before twigging to that point!

Anyway keep up the good macwork!

Jim and eject button.

You can also hold down the 'f12' key, as that doubles as an eject key on keyboards
that lack one.

Er...normally. Not sure what would happen if you've got it redefined as one of
the Expose functions.

The bowler hat is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown created for Thomas Coke, 2nd Earl of Leicester of Holkham, in 1850.[1] It was designed by the hatters James and George Lock of Mr. Lock of St. James's Street and was dubbed by them early on as the "iron hat".[2] The Locks sent their design to the hatmakers Thomas and William Bowler who produced the prototype of the hat for Coke. The "iron hat" later picked up the name Bowler because of its makers family name, which has been used ever since
